Fairgrieves named Small Business of the Year in Durham, Sunderland and South Tyneside region as part of 2023 North East Business Awards

Fairgrieve Compression Moulding is delighted to have been named the 2023 Small Business of the Year for the Durham, Sunderland and South Tyneside region.

The accolade has come as part of the North East Business Awards, which are being staged for the 21st year to honour the region’s best businesses, and the amazing people behind them, from the boardroom to the shop floor.

The awards ‘celebrate innovation, entrepreneurship, technology and creativity and honour brilliant people going the extra mile for their customers and clients’, shining a light on the fantastic things businesses are doing to make a difference across the North East.

As per previous years, this year’s process saw-regional heats held for Northumberland & Tyneside, Durham, Sunderland & South Tyneside and Teesside, with the winners of each heat progressing to the Grand Final, which covers the entire North East.

Fairgrieves progressed through a longlist, shortlist, and final three judging process before being named the winners of the Durham, Sunderland & South Tyneside regional heat, now progressing to face the winners of the two other heats in a bid to take the overall North East crown.

Second accolade of 2023 for business

It is the second accolade for the business this year, having already been named shortlisted as a finalist at the 2023 Engineering & Manufacturing Awards, in the category of Manufacturing Productivity Improvement.

Judges in both awards have been impressed by an impressive rate of improvement since the business benefitted from new ownership, investment and managerial direction in May 2021, turning around a loss-making s situation at the 110 year-old company into a highly profitable and efficient operation.

General Manager Barry Davidson was delighted with the accolade of Small Business of the Year for Durham, Sunderland & South Tyneside.

“This is yet more recognition for the transformation the business has been through over the past two years, and how we have ensured that a business with more than 100 years of history now has a successful future ahead.

“We now have a culture of continuous improvement across the business which has helped us significantly improve productivity and quality, and that has only been achievable because we have had 100% buy-in to what we are trying to achieve from our long-serving, and talented team, who have been delighted to see the new energy and purpose the business now has.”

The winners from each heat of the North East Business Awards have today been announced to millions of readers of ChronicleLive, TeessideLive and BusinessLive online, and in the pages of The Journal and The Gazette. The overall North East Winners will be announced at a glittering Grand Final awards dinner, in the Grand Marquee at Hardwick Hall on Tuesday, September 26.
